Earth Remote Sensing Research Projects

The ERS center has research opportunities from a range of programs such as  Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programs (UROP), EECS SuperUROP, graduate Research Assistantships (RAs), and internships.  For more information, please contact Prof. Kerri Cahoy.

Past Research Projects

Project MicroMAS (June 2011 – Sept. 2014)

Lincoln Laboratory - William J. Blackwell
MIT - Kerri Cahoy

A collaboration between MIT Lincoln Laboratory, MIT Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and University of Massachusetts (Amherst) Department of Radio Astronomy led to the design, integration, environmental test, launch, and on-orbit operation of a 3U atmospheric satellite for severe weather monitoring.

Potential Future Projects

Project MiRaTA (Sept. 2014)

Lincoln Laboratory - William J. Blackwell
MIT - Kerri Cahoy

The Microwave Radiometer Technology Acceleration (MiRaTA) 3U CubeSat T will validate new ultra-compact and low-power technology for CubeSat-sized microwave radiometers operating near 52-58, 175-191, and 206-208 GHz. This project will also validate new GPS receiver and antenna array technology necessary for CubeSat tropospheric radio occultation sounding and test a new approach to radiometer calibration using concurrent GPS radio occultation (GPSRO) measurements.
