Cyber Patriot 2012

Cyber Patriot 2012 - National Finalist

“Not only are teams learning about cyber defense, they are learning to be leaders, better team players, and communicators, but most of all, they are having fun.” – Chiamaka Agbasi-Porter, Lincoln Laboratory Education Outreach Coordinator.

CyberPatriot V began in fall 2012 with more than 1,200 competing teams and 100,000 students. In the open division, 12 of the 419 teams, including Lincoln Laboratory’s, advanced to the finals, earning team members an all-expenses-paid trip to Maryland.

This year’s event included a network security competition designed to test the skills of the national finalist teams in an exercise against a red team of “attackers,” as well as a Cisco networking competition. Mentored by Robert Cunningham and Joseph Werther and coached by Chiamaka Agbasi-Porter, the six members of the team were named Open Division National Finalists.

“It’s been exciting to work with high school students and see their knowledge grow and deepen. The seniors who returned to the team this year are very knowledgeable about system security, so we discussed cryptology and real-world computer security problems, too.” – Rob Cunningham, Lincoln Laboratory Cyber Systems and Technology Group Leader.
