Requirements

Students must be able to attend all sessions

  • Enrollment will be for 1 (one) of the courses.

  • The program is completely free! Students should be interested and excited in learning about robotics, engineering, and programming.

  • Interest in the topic is required but no experience is necessary.

  • Enrollment for the Spring program is separate and independent from the summer program.

Practical Radio will be IN-PERSON at MIT! The remaining Saturday programs will be VIRTUAL and some courses are based on the Beaver Works Summer Institute program.  The Spring program is for early high school students and is meant to be a beginning look at engineering and some are based on BWSI courses.  Completion of a course will will help these students feel comfortable going forward to apply for the BWSI programs.

Information on specific courses

Yes!  You Can Learn Practical Radio: Learn about and experiment with radio communications technology at MIT and is entirely developed and taught by the MIT Radio Society – MIT's student ham radio club.  In this class, you will build antennas and radios, talk on the air with ham radio operators, find hidden transmitters, communicate with satellites, learn about radio hacking, be exposed to cutting-edge research in radioastronomy, and more!

Yes! You Can Program Autonomous Cars uses the Mini-RACECAR course that includes introduction to Python programming and machine vision.  We'll be using a simulator built in Unity to test their code over a virtual racetrack. This course is designed for students who are interested in programming but don't have much experience and we start with introductory programming and work to machine vision and control algorithms to code an autonomous model car.

Yes, You Can Program Cognitive Assistants Have you wondered how computers understand your voice? We will introduce you to programming python, coding  machine learning algorithms, the basics of artificial intelligence and natural language processing!

Many Interesting Things for Aspiring Engineers: An early introduction to the technologies that shape our world.

Yes! You Can Design, Build and Fly Model Aircraft: Introduces students to aerospace engineering using model planes and wind tunnels to demonstrate concepts.

Laptops: Attendees should plan on using their own computers for zoom meetings and work, but can be provided if needed.

Each course will provide specific project supplies if needed.
