RequirementsStudents must be able to attend all sessions
Our Fall Saturday program will be VIRTUAL and courses are based on Beaver Works Summer Institute courses. The Spring program is meant to be a beginning look at some of the BWSI courses we offer for early high school students. Completion of a course will will help these students feel comfortable going forward to apply for the BWSI programs.Information on specific courses (NOTE THESE ARE BEING UPDATED - See complete pamphlet for current information)Computational Biology and the Microbiome: The future of bio is now! Learn about fundamental computational biology concepts like genomics, programming, data visualization, and digital biosecurity in a fun, low stress environment. - NOT BEING OFFERED FOR FALL 2023 Yes! You Can Program Autonomous Cars uses the Mini-RACECAR course that includes introduction to Python programming and machine vision. We'll be using a simulator built in Unity to test their code over a virtual racetrack. This course is designed for students who are interested in programming but don't have much experience and we start with introductory programming and work to machine vision and control algorithms to code an autonomous model car. Yes, You Can Program Cognitive Assistants Have you wondered how computers understand your voice? We will introduce you to programming python, coding machine learning algorithms, the basics of artificial intelligence and natural language processing! Yes! You Can Hack and Code! introduces students to security in the digital domain. It is based on the the BWSI Embedded Security and Hardware Hacking course. Students will compete by programming devices and check the security of each others work in a "capture the flag" style competition. Many Interesting Things for Aspiring Engineers: An early introduction to the technologies that shape our world. Yes! You Can Design, Build and Fly Model Aircraft: Introduces students to aerospace engineering using model planes and wind tunnels to demonstrate concepts. Ham Radio 101: will be IN-PERSON at MIT, students will propagate deep in electronics, communications and electro magnetics that go into radio communications NOT BEING OFFERED FOR FALL 2023 |

Laptops: Attendees should plan on using their own computers for zoom meetings and work, but can be provided if needed. Each course will provide specific project supplies if needed. |
